After the closing of NPC&CPPCC in 2018, the State Council had begun to set up the state administration of market supervision and administration, and brought food safety supervision into a unified market supervision system. How to increase the supervision of food safety under the condition of constant establishment of public officials is an urgent problem to be solved in this round of institutional reform. This paper summarized the current situations of the construction of food inspectors at home and abroad. It focused on the problems existing in the construction of the team of food inspectors in China and the significances of speeding up the construction of professional inspectors to solve the bottleneck of the current grass-roots supervision and to ensure the safety of food. It advocated that professional inspectors should become a new profession, which was of great significance for improving the efficiency of food safety supervision in China, with a view to provide more information and reference to government regulators.
