Abstract:Thedynamicstiffnessofpolyesterropepresentsacomplexmechanicalperformance,andthesearchforanappropriatecalculationmethodtosimulatethispropertyisimportant.Distortedsimulationresultseventuallyyieldinaccuratelinetensionandvesseloffsetpredictions,withtheinaccuracyofvesseloffsetbeingparticularlylarge.Thispaperproposesaflexiblecalculationmethodforthedynamicbehaviorofpolyesterropebasedonthedynamicstiffnessmodel.Areal-timevaryingstiffnessmodelofpolyesterropeisemployedtosimulatetensionresponsethroughropestrainmonitoring.Consequently,asimulationprogramisdeveloped,andrelatedcasestudiesareconductedtoexplorethedifferencesbetweentheproposedmethodandanalyticalprocedureoftheDNVstandard.Orcaflexisusedtosimulatetheresultsofthelatterprocedureforcomparison.Resultsshowtheconvenienceandstraightforwardnessoftheprocedureintheselectionofanapproximatedynamicstiffnessmodelforpolyesterrope,whichleadstoanengineering-orientedapproach.However,theproposedmethodisrelatedtolineproperty,whichcandirectlyreflectthedynamicbehaviorofpolyesterrope.Thus,aflexiblecalculationmethodmayprovideareferenceforthesimulationofthedynamicresponseofpolyestermooringsystems.
