Abstract：CombiningthestrengthsofLagrangianandEuleriandescriptions,thecoupledLagrangian-Eulerianmethodsplayanincreasinglyimportantroleinvarioussubjects.Thisworkreviewstheirdevelopmentandapplicationinoceanengineering.Initially,webrieflyoutlinetheadvantagesanddisadvantagesoftheLagrangianandEuleriandescriptionsandthemaincharacteristicsofthecoupledLagrangian-Eulerianapproach.Then,followingthedevelopmentaltrajectoryofthesemethods,thefundamentalformulationsandtheframeworksofvariousapproaches,includingthearbitraryLagrangian-Eulerianfiniteelementmethod,theparticle-in-cellmethod,thematerialpointmethod,andtherecentlydevelopedLagrangian-Eulerianstabilizedcollocationmethod,aredetailedlyreviewed.Inaddition,thearticlereviewstheresearchprogressofthesemethodswithapplicationsinoceanhydrodynamics,focusingonfreesurfaceflows,numericalwavegeneration,waveoverturningandbreaking,interactionsbetweenwavesandcoastalstructures,fluid-rigidbodyinteractions,fluid-elasticbodyinteractions,multiphaseflowproblemsandvisualizationofoceanflows,etc.Furthermore,thelatestresearchadvancementsinthenumericalstability,accuracy,efficiency,andconsistencyofthecoupledLagrangian-Eulerianparticlemethodsarereviewed;theseadvancementsenableefficientandhighlyaccuratesimulationofcomplicatedmultiphysicsproblemsinoceanandcoastalengineering.Bybuildingontheseworks,thecurrentchallengesandfuturedirectionsofthehybridLagrangian-Eulerianparticlemethodsaresummarized.
