Abstract:Airpollutionfromshippingisbecomingacriticalissue,particularlyindensehubportcities.Oneproposedsolutiontominimizeship-basedemissionsatportsistheimplementationofanOnshorePowerSupply(OPS)system.OPSallowsshipstoshutofftheirauxiliaryenginesandinsteadconnecttotheportgrid.WhiletherehavebeennumerousstudiesconductedonportsinEuropeandtheUnitedStates,littleresearchhasbeendoneonEgyptianports.Therefore,thispaperaimstoinvestigatethefeasibilityofimplementingOPSatPortSaidWestPortinEgypt,aligningwithEgyptVision2030'sgoalsforaddressingclimatechange.Theresearchprimarilyfocusesonanalyzingdatacollectedfromcallingshipstogeneratesocio-economicandcost-effectivenessanalysesofOPS.TofurtherenhancetheenvironmentalbenefitsofOPS,thepaperproposestheuseofsolarenergyastheOPSelectricitysource.Thefindingsofthestudyrevealedthatbyrelyingonthenationalgrid,emissionscanbereducedby28%.Moreover,itispredictedthatthisreductioncouldreach100%ifelectricitygenerationissolelybasedonsolarenergy.Additionally,theeconomicanalysisdemonstratespromisingprofitability,withapaybackperiodofapproximatelytwoyears.
