ThismixedmethodsstudyistoinvestigatecollegestudentperspectivesononlinesafetyandtheirmotivationtowardonlinesafetytrainingthroughthelensofProtectionMotivationTheory(PMT).Asequentialmixedmethoddesignwasusedinthisstudy.Asurveyinstrument,whichincludesitemsoncampussecuritymeasures,pastassociationswithcrimeonthecampus,andthemodeofonlinesafetytrainingwithrelationtotheirbeliefsabouttheirownresponseefficacy,wascreatedandvalidatedbyuniversityprofessorsofeducationalresearch.ApilotsurveywasconductedonauniversitycampusinthesoutheasternUnitedStatesinadditiontoindividualinterviewstoprovidefurtherunderstandingofstudentperspectivesononlinesafetyandtheirmotivationtowardonlinesafetytraining.Thepreliminaryresultsindicatestudentsfeelcampusisasafeplacebecausetheyseesafetymeasuresaroundcampus,whichhasnegativeeffectsontheirmotivationstoparticipateinonlinesafetytrainingprogram.Thestudyalsorevealedthatstudentperspectiveandmotivationarecloselyrelatedtostudents'feelingofapositiveresponseefficacy.
