Surroundingrockofcavernsindeephighstressconditionhavethecharac-teristicsoflongdeformationduration,largelooseningrangeandlargedeformation.Itisdifficulttocontrolcaverns'deformationwithconventionalsupportmethods.Deformationandfailuremechanismisasfollows:strongcreepofweakrockinhighstresscondition,fracturedsupportstructuresgradually,untilsupportfailure,evenrooffall.Onthebasisofmanyyearsofengineeringpractice,thispaperanalysesthestratapressurecharacter-isticsandinstabilitymechanismofthreetypicalpumpcaverns.Conceptofreconstructedbearinglayerwasproposed.Thesecavernsare-250mpumpcaverninSino-ThaiCompany,39miningareapumpingcavernaffectedbylargefaultinZhongmacunCoalMine,-800mPumpcavernofZhaoguNo.2CoalMine.Combinedwiththereinforce-mentprincipleofsurroundingrockofcavern,rebuildingbearingstratawaspro-posed.AndmultiplesupportonthebasisofNewAustrianLawwassuggested.Thetypi-calsupporttechnologyinZhaoguNo.2Coalmineisfourtimesupports.Andtheprimarysupportisbolt-anchorcable-steelbeam.Thesecondarysupportofsurroundingrockisgrouting,whichcanstrengthenstrata.Thethirdsupportofsurroundingrockisdouble-deckI-shapedsteelbracket.Andthefourthsupportisshotcrete,whichcansealedstrata.Fieldinvestigationshowsthatthesurroundingrockofpumpcavernshavebeeneffectivelycontrolled.Andgoodtechnicalandeconomicbenefitshavebeena-chieved.
