Withfeaturessuchasdecentralization,consistency,tamperresistance,non-repudiationandpseudonym,blockchaintechnologyhasthepotentialtostrengthenInternetofThings(IoT)significantly,thusopeninganintriguingresearchareaintheintegrationofblockchainandIoT.However,mostexistingblockchainschemeswerenotdedicatedtotheIoTecosystemandhencecouldnotmeetthespecificrequirementsofIoT.Weaimtofixthegapinthispaper.InspiredbyChainspace,ablockchainplatformwhichcouldbeadoptedinIoT,weproposeVChain,anovelblockchainschemesuitableforIoTwhichismoresecure,concreteandpracticalcomparedwithChainspace.Specifically,inVChain,wedesignatwo-layerBFTbasedconsensusprotocolwithHoneyBadgerBFTprotocolandacollectivesignatureschemeasbuildingblocks.Thisallowsforsupportingfaulty-shards-toleranceandasynchronousnetworkmodelwhichcouldnotbesustainedinChainspaceandkeepinghighefficiencyaswell.Moreover,theshardingstrategypresentedinVChain,differentfromthatinRapidChainwhichadoptstheenergy-consumingPoWmechanismforsharding,isenvironmentfriendlyandthusmakesVChainfitforIoTwell.Lastbutnotleast,VChainalsoinheritsthemeritsofChainspacetoseparatetheexecutionandverificationofsmartcontractsforprivacy.
