Poly(MethylMethacrylate)(PMMA)resiniswidelyusedasaprostheticandrestorativebiomaterial,suchasbonecement,denturebaseresin,etc.FlexuralandcompressionstrengthofPMMAresinareofgreatconcernandmanyapproacheshavebeenmadetoimprovetheflexuralresistanceandcompressivestrengthofPMMA.TostrengthenPMMAviahigh-performance(HP)fibersisafeasibleway;however,theHPfibersarenotverysatisfactoryinpractice,withcomplexhandlingprocessandestheticsconcern.TheaimofthisstudyistoinvestigatethepreparationofanovelbotryoidalPMMAmicrosphere-graftedaramidfibersystem,whichisneverreportedbefore,andtheflexuralandcompressionbehaviorofthePMMA/aramidcomposite,andevaluatethecytotoxiceffectsofthePMMA/aramidcomposite.Asaresult,theadditionofmicrosphere-graftedaramidfibertotheacrylicresin,withtheestheticproblemofaramidfiberminimized,simultaneouslyimprovestheflexuralstrengthandcompressionstrength,andthesafetyofthePMMA/aramidcompositeinvitroisproven.Theexperimentalresultssuggestthatthiscompositehasgreatpotentialinthefieldofrestorativematerialsinclinicalapplications,wherehighmechanicalpropertiesarerequired,suchashardtissuerepairing.
