Elderlyandteenagersarethemostcommonagegroupsinvolvedincarcrashesaccordingtorecentresearch.However,driverethicalandpragmaticconcernsbringmanyresearchlimitationstoon-roadtesting.Thismakesgettinginformationfromdrivers,especiallyelderlyinhazardoussituations,difficult.Theobjectiveofthisstudyistogatheragreaterunderstandingaboutprevalentdrivingweaknessassociatedwithelderlyandteenagers,andbuildupspecificexperimentalenvironmenttoaddressdrivers'featuresondrivingsimulator;andthus,obtainbehavioralsignaturesofagedandteendriversduringhazardeventsthroughexperimentation.Inthisproject,thedrivingbehaviorofbothyoung,experienceddrivers(N=15,Mean=19.5,SD=0.83)andelderdrivers(N=5,Mean=68.0,SD=6.40)werecomparedandanalyzedasapilotexperiment.Thevirtualenvironmenttestisaround15minuteslongwitharound7.5milesofdrivingandconsistsofN=15hazardeventsrandomlyscatteredinbothurbanandruralzones.Asaresult,comparedwithyoungadultdrivers,elderdriversshowedmorecrashes,lessviolationstoredlightandstopsigns,longercompletiontime,loweraveragespeeds,etc.Besidesthis,elderdriverssuffermoreeasilyfromsimulationsicknesslikesweatandnausea,mainlyduetothelackofvideogamesexperienceandage-relateddeclinecomparedtoyoungdrivers,asself-reported.Thispilotstudycanhelptoidentifythegenesisandfeaturesofcaraccidentsthatinvolveagedgroups.
