ThereareaserialofMLS(MobileLoadSimulator)technologiesinSouthAfrica.ItstartedatStellenbosch,WesternCapein1991.Lastdecade,APT(AcceleratedPavementTesting)systemshaveexperiencedobviouschangesandsubstantialprogress.Inthispaper,athirdscaleofMLSandafullscaleofMLSareintroduced.Atpresent,bothSouthAfricaandChinahaveownedalmostahalfoftotalnumbersofMLSdevicesintheworld.TheMLSdevelopmentwasimpactedbytheserealneedsinresearchfieldsandindustrialapplications.Ithashadauniqueprincipletosimulatethetrucksandmovingloads.ItwasrecognisedthatthescopeofAPTismainlycoveringmostoffactorswhichactonpavementmaterialsandstructures.Thispapergivesthemainfeaturesofthe1/3MLSinSouthAfricaandfullscaleMLSwhichhaveappliedinChina.
