Ductileironpipesystems,includingpipes,fittings,jointsandaccessories,arewidelyusedinwatersupply,butsometimeareviewedasatraditionalmaterial.Thispaperintendstopresenttherecentadvancesmadeinductileironpipesystemsforwatersupply:Ductileironpipesystemsarenowavailableinthecurrentductileirondiameters,andnowalsointhetraditionalplasticpipedimensionswiththenewrangeBlutopJointtechnologyhasmadetremendousprogressintermofdesign,gasketsmaterialcharacteristicsandperformance,fornon-restraintaswellforrestraintsystemscontributingtoenhancethequalityofwaterdistributedProtectionagainstaggressivesoilshasbeenradicallyimprovedwiththenewZinc-AluminiumepoxyexternalcoatingwhichenlargesthefieldofuseandthedurabilityofductileironpipesystemsandimprovesthecontactwithwaterNewinternalliningshavebeendeveloped,includinghighdensityblastfurnacecementmortarlining,andrecentlylaunchedthermoplasticorthermosetliningsContributingtoasustainabledevelopmentisakeydriveroftheprogressofductileironpipesystems.ProductdesignandISOandENStandardsevolutionscontributetoreducetheenvironmentalfootprintofwatersupplynetworks.Andnow,somenewproductsarespecificallydedicatedtonewenergieslikethoseusedinhydropowerstationsTheserecentadvancesarereviewedextensively,withspecialreferencetowatersupplyprojectsunderprogress.
