Thepaperprovidesaninvestigationintothebeat-rattleoccurringonaRWDmanualtransmissionathighgearpositionandunderwideopenthroatcondition.Firstly,thesourcesofbeat-rattlearediscoveredtobetheenginesecondorderexcitationandtransmissioncountershaftrotationalexcitation,throughbothexperimentandsimulation.Secondly,torsionaldamperisoptimizedtore-ducetheexcitationofbeat.Thirdly,therelationshipbetweenexcitationfrequencydifferenceandrattlesoundqualityisinvestigatedonagearrattlesensitivitytestbench,togetthebestfrequencydifference.Finally,acombinedsolution,consistingoftheoptimizedtorsionaldamperandtunedgearratio,isappliedonthevehicle,andtestifiedtosettletheproblemofbeat-rattle.
