Inrecentandemergingtechnologicaldevelopments,powertrainweremostlyaccompaniedwithelectronicsforefficientandprecisecontrolofpowertrainsystem.Agriculturaltractorsareofnoexceptiontothiscontext.Mostofthehigherhorsepowertractorsabove50HPareequippedwithmoderntransmissionsystemssuchasPower-shuttle,Power-shiftetc.,havingtheirwetclutchtransmis-sionanddieselenginecontrolledbyanElectronicControlUnit.Thisispossibleonlywithanenginethatreceivesandprovideselectronicsignals.WhereasatractorwithmechanicalengineisofpredominantuseintheIndianfarmlandsduetotheirlowcostandimmediateavailabilitycomparedtothatofanengineequippedwithadvanced/modernelectronics.Hence,thereisademandforlowcostpowertrainwithimprovedcontrolsandwithoutengineelectronics.Thisresearchworkdepictsononesuchdevelopment,PowerShuttleTransmissionandControlsforagriculturaltractorwithamechanicallyoperatedengine.Thisresearchworkalsoaddressthesafetyfeaturesforprotectingandincreasingthelifeofsystemcomponentslikeclutchslippage,energydissipation,powerconsumption.Fewsystemprotectionwasal-sodonethroughfaultmodediagnosisviasafetyfeaturessuchasanti-stalling,overruncutoffshuttling,wrongdirectiondetection,etc.withminimalsensorsandpowertraincomponents.
