Concretebridgedecksoverlayedwithasphaltwearingcoursesoftenwitnessearlydistresses,suchasshoving,potholes,ravelingandslippagecrackingduetopoorbondsbetweenthetwolayerswithdifferentmodulus.Frequentlyusedlaboratorytests,including"direct"sheartest,pull-offtest,andtorsionalsheartest,cannotfullyrepresentthecriticalconditionshappeninginthefields.Inthisstudy,shearfatiguetestunderrepetitiveloadsatanangleof45°wasdevelopedinstead.Threetackcoatmaterials,includingSBSmodifiedasphalt,emulsifiedasphalt,andepoxyresin,werechosenasbindingmaterialstoformmulti-layerdeckpavementspecimens.Theirperformanceswereevaluatedthroughshearfatiguetestonuniversaltestmachine.Theshearstressandsheardisplacementofeachspecimenatfailurewerefirstlyidentified,andthenfourlevelsofstresswereselectedtoperformtheshearfatiguetest,basedonwhichafatiguepredictionmodelwasdeveloped.Toapproximatethelaboratoryresultstofieldloadscenarios,anadjustmentfactor,representingtheimpactsofdifferentloadcombinationsonfatiguelife,wasintroduced.Itisfoundinthestudythatepoxyresinmaterialhasaremarkablysuperiorshearfatigueperformancecomparedtotheothertwoandtheadjustmentfactorisheavilyaffectedbytheloadcombinations.
