LowPressureExhaustGasRecirculation(LP-EGR)isoneoftheseveraltechnologiesthatarebeinginvestigatedtode-liverfutureCO2reduceandmatchlegislativeemissionstandards.ThispaperwillintroducetheLP-EGRdesignrisksontheturbochargedgasolineengineanditsmitigation.Stringentlegislativemeasuresornationalandinternationallegislation/lawsobligetheautomotiveindus-trytoreducefuelconsumptionandemission.MostoftheOEMsinAsia,USandEuroareusingorconsideringtouseCEGRforgasolineengine.Tocomplywiththoseregulationsandtostaycompetitiveintheglobalmarket,itisnecessarytoadoptnewtechnology.CooledEx-haustGasRecirculation(CEGR)isaneffectivewaytoimprovefueleconomyandreduceNOx.BesidestheclearadvantagesofLP-EGRapplicationsonfueleconomyandemission,therearesomechallengestothecomponentsdesignandsoftwarecontrol.Problemsconcerningcomponentsaretheriskofcondensatewater,carbondeposition,fouling,coolerboil-ing,thelowdifferentialpressureofthesystem,failureriskofcatalyst,selectionofEGRcoolerspecifications,leakageoftheEGRvalve,thenoiseofDeltapvalveoutlet,andtransientcontrolaboutresponsedelayandcontrolaccuracy.Thispaperwillpresentthede-signexperienceofthelowpressureEGRsystemthatwehaveaccumulatedandexcavatedintheLP-EGRproject.
