China'scorporateaveragefuelconsumption(CAFC)standardsarecurbweightbasedwithdiscretefuelconsumptiontargetsfordifferentweightclasses,whichimposessignificantimpactsonthelight-weightingstrategyofautomotivemanufacturers.Inthispaper,thecurbweightofallmodelsindomesticpassengercarmarketfrom2010to2014isinvestigated.Andfromtheperspectivesofbrands,classesandcurbweightchanges,curbweightdistributionofeachweightsubclassinCAFCstandardsisanalyzed.Meanwhile,byemployingcost-effectivenessanalysis,theincentiveforcurbweightabnormaldistributionisdescribed.Ouranalysisindicatesthatautomotivemanufacturersmanipulatecurbweightofmanymodelstocomplywithmorefavorablestandardstarget.ThediscretesteppedcharacteristicsofChina'sCAFCstandardsisnotinfavoroftheapplicationoflight-weightingtechnologies.
