Weatherconditionstendtohavemeasurableimpactontrafficconditionsoftheroads.Thisrelationshipiscommonlystudiedatthenetworklevelwithoutexplicitexplanationofthelinkperformances.Furthermore,existingstudiestypicallyusehighresolutiontrafficdatawhichmaynotbeavailableacrosstheentirenetworkandespeciallyduringtheadverseweatherconditions.Inthisstudyweexploretheimpactofrainfallintensityonlow-resolutionspeedbanddata.Wealsotestwhetherthisadditionalinformationaboutrainfallmayimprovethepredictionaccuracyofdata-drivenmodelsforindividualroads.Todoso,weincorporatetheinformationabouttherainfallintensityintosupportvectormachine(SVM)predictionalgorithm.Asabenchmarkweonlyconsidertemporalfeaturestopredictnearfuturetrafficconditionsduringrainyweather.Numericalresultsfor616roadsegmentsinSingaporeconfirmthatrainfallimpactstrafficconditionsintermsofdecreasingthedrivingspeed.Thisreductionincreaseswiththerainintensity.Furthermore,theresultsshowthatadditionalrainfalldataenhancesthepredictionaccuracyforcertainnumberoflinks;whilefortheotherstherainfallinformationisnotthatuseful.
