Thispaperpresentsanewtypeofaerodynamicoptimizationintermsofcuttingdownaero-dragwithoutcompromisinghugenumbersofstylingfeaturesorinercasingtheweightconsiderably.Theideologyofaddingwinglettoeachsideoftherear-spoilerwasfirstlybroughttousbysomepreviousSAEpapers ,whichunfortunately,depictthisoptimizationinrathervaguemanners.Withthehelpofthegeometricalgraphincludedinthosepapers,asimilarwingletmodelwasbuiltandaddedtothefull-vehiclemodel,followedbyaseriesofcomputationalverificationsoncommercialCFDsoftware.Bycarefullyinvestigatingtheflowfieldaroundtherear-spoilerandvehiclebackregion,somesizeandshapeadjustmentsweremadetothewinglettomaximizeitseffectofdecreasingaero-drag.Later,differentsetsofrealwingletprototypesweremadeandtestedin3differentwind-tunnelexperiments,duringwhichtheeffectofwingletsondrag-reductionhasbeenconfirmedandcomparedwiththeresultsfromCFDsimulation.Discussionandanalysisonthedisparitybe-tweentestresultsandthenumericaloneshasbeenconducted,followedbythefinalconclusion.
