Fatigueisthemainfailuremodeofengine'scomplicatedcomponentslikecylinderheads.Hence,anaccuratelifemodelwouldhelpdirectanti-fatiguemethods.However,becausecylinderheadsundergocomplexthermalandmechanicalloadings,itwouldbeverydifficulttoconducttestswhichcancompletelysimulatethethermo-mechanicalfatiguecondition.Inthisstudy,inordertoevaluatethefatiguetimeofcylinderheadswithhighefficiency,sincecylinderheads'lifetimesaredecidedbythelowcyclefatigueareasonitsfiredeck,thiscriticallocationshouldbehighlighted.Anear-components-shapedspecimen“valvebridgesample”weredesignedandthentestedonaone-waypull-pressfatiguemachine.Bycomparingthemeasuredfatiguelifetimesfromteststothecalculatedonesfromfourlifepredictionformulas,apreferableformulawasselectedtoestablishtheoriginallifetimemodel.Then,takingintoaccountthatmaterialrelatedparameterslikeyieldlimitwoulddecreaseunderhightemperature,theoriginallifetimemodelwascorrectedbyadoptingthetemperaturefactor“t”.Finally,theavailabilityandaccuracyofthelifemodelwerevalidated.
