VehicleRollBehaviorwithSteeringInputUnderVariousRoadExcitation.pdf
Thevehiclerollbehaviorwithsteeringinputisanimportantpartofdrivingsafety,andfindingthevehicledynamicsac-curatelyinarealdrivingscenarioisaseriousconcern.However,previousresearchhasseldomconsideredtherelationbetweenroadexci-tationandvehiclelateralresponsewithsteeringinput.Toaddressthisissue,acomprehensiveanalysisofvehiclerollbehaviorwithsteer-inginputisstudiedinthispaper.Basedonthepowerspectraldensity(PSD)definitionofroadroughnessanditsrelationship,athree-dimensional(3-D)roadsurfacemodelisfirstintroducedforinternationalstandardizationorganization(ISO)levelAandlevelCtyperoadexcitations.Then,a6degreeoffreedom(6-DOF)modelincludingverticalandlateraldynamicsisproposed.Byvaryingthevehi-cleparameters,suchasvehicletotalmass,trackwidthandtheheightofthecenterofgravity(C.G.)ofsprungmass,thesystemre-sponserelationshipsbetweenroadexcitationandrolloverindex(RI)areillustrated.Thesimulationresultsshowthat,1)theinfluenceoftheheightofC.G.duetovehiclemasstransferringonrollbehaviorismostsensitiveunderconstantroadexcitation,2)apositivere-lationshipbetweenroadexcitationlevelandrollresponsecanbefoundunderconstantvehicleparameters.Finally,theproposedmodelisvalidatedinCARSIM(R)softwareandthesimulationresultsconfirmtheaccuracyofthemodel.ItisalsofoundthattheheightofC.G.duetovehiclemasstransferringandroadexcitationlevelcannotbeignoredwhilstanalyzingthevehiclerollbehaviorswithsteeringinput.Theresearchachievementsprovideatheoreticalinsighttoimprovetherollovertheoryandwillhavesignificantcontributiontopracticalappli-cations.
