Riverincisionratesquantifiedbyriverterracedataarewidelyusedtotrackthechangesofthestrengthoftectonicorclimaticforcingofdowncuttingovertimeandspace.ThisworkfocusesthespatialpatternofriverincisionrateinthenorthernChineseTianShanforelandanditssignificance.Forthefourriversdiscussedhere(i.e.theKuitunRiver,theJingouRiver,theManasRiver,andtheUrumqiRiver),twoobviousspatialpatternscanbeobservedontheratesofriverincisionconstrainedbythereferenceterraceofeachriverthathasasimilarformationagewitheachother,i.e.basinwarddecreasingfromthemaximumattheoutletofeachrivertozero;eastwarddecreasingfrom～25mm/yrattheoutletoftheKuitunRiver(west)tolessthan2mm/yrattheoutletoftheUrumqiRiver(east).
