Background:Anincreasingtrendoftheincidenceofmumpshasbeenobservedinafewdevelopingcountriesinrecentyears,presentingamajorthreattochildren'shealth.Afewstudieshaveexaminedtherelationshipbetweenmeteorologicalfactorsandmumpswithinconsistentfindings.Methods:Thedailydataofmeteorologicalvariablesandmumpsfrom2009to2013wereobtainedfromJining,atemperateinlandcityofChina.Ageneralizedadditivemodelwasusedtoquantifytheassociationbetweenmeteorologicalfactorsandmumpsbasedontheexposure-responserelationship.Results:Atotalof8520mumpscaseswereincludedinthisstudy.Wefoundanonlinearrelationshipofdailymeantemperature,sunshinedurationandrelativehumiditywithmumps,withanapproximatelylinearassociationformeantemperatureabove4C(excessrisk(ER)for1℃increasewas2.72%,95%confidenceinterval(CI):2.38%,3.05%onthecurrentday),forrelativehumidityabove54%,theERfor1%increasewas-1.86%(95%CI:—2.06%,-1.65%)atlagday14;andforsunshinedurationhigherthan5h/d,theERforper1h/dincreasewasl2.91%(95%CI:11.38%,14.47%)atlagday1.Whilewefoundlineareffectsfordailywindspeed(ER:2.98%,95%CI:2.71%,3.26%atlagday13).Conclusions:Thisstudysuggeststhatmeteorologicalfactorsmightbeimportantpredictorsofincidenceofmumps,andshouldbeconsideredinitscontrolandprevention.
