Abstract:Inthispaper,numericalanalysesoffluidflowaroundtheshiphullssuchasSeries60,theKrisoContainerShip(KCS),andcatamaranadvancingincalmwater,arepresented.Acommercialcomputationalfluiddynamic(CFD)code,STAR-CCM+isusedtoanalyzetotalresistance,sinkage,trim,waveprofile,andwavepatternforarangeofFroudenumbers.ThegoverningRANSequationsoffluidflowarediscretizedusingthefinitevolumemethod(FVM),andthepressure-velocitycouplingequationsaresolvedusingtheSIMPLE(semi-implicitmethodforpressurelinkedequations)algorithm.Volumeoffluid(VOF)methodisemployedtocapturetheinterfacebetweenairandwaterphases.Afinediscretizationisperformedinbetweenthesetwophasestogetahighermeshresolution.Thefluid-structureinteraction(FSI)ismodeledwiththedynamicfluid-bodyinteraction(DFBI)modulewithintheSTAR-CCM+.Thenumericalresultsareverifiedusingtheresultsavailableintheliteratures.Gridconvergencestudiesarealsocarriedouttodeterminethedependenceofresultsonthegridquality.Incomparisontopreviousfindings,thecurrentCFDanalysisshowsthesatisfactoryresults.
