Abstract：Thepresentworkanalyzestheinteractionofobliquewavesbyaporousflexiblebreakwaterinthepresenceofastep-typebottom.Thephysicalmodelsforbothscatteringandtrappingcasesareconsideredanddevelopedwithintheframeworkofsmallamplitudewater-wavetheory.Darcy'slawisusedtomodelthewaveinteractionwiththeporousmedium.Itisassumedthatthevaryingbottomextendsoverafiniteinterval,connectedbyafinitelengthofuniformbottomnearanimpermeablewall,andasemi-infinitelengthofbottomintheopenwaterregion.Theboundaryvalueproblemissolvedusingtheeigenfunctionexpansionmethodintheuniformbottomregions,whileamodifiedmild-slopeequation(MMSE)isusedfortheregionwiththevaryingbottom.Additionally,amass-conservingjumpconditionisemployedtohandlethesolutionatslopediscontinuitiesinthebottom.Asystemofequationsisderivedbymatchingthesolutionsatinterfaces.Thereflectioncoefficientandforceonthebreakwaterandimpermeablewallareplottedandanalyzedforvariousparameters,suchasthelengthofthevaryingbottom,depthratio,angleofincidence,andflexuralrigidity.Itisobservedthatmoderatevaluesofflexuralrigidityanddepthratiosignificantlycontributetoanoptimumreflectioncoefficientandreducethewaveforceonthewallandbreakwater.Remarkably,theoutcomesofthisstudyareassumedtobeapplicableintheconstructionofthistypeofbreakwaterincoastalregions.
