Abstract：Theestimationofsparseunderwateracoustic(UWA)channelscanberegardedasaninferenceprobleminvolvinghiddenvariableswithintheBayesianframework.WhiletheclassicalsparseBayesianlearning(SBL),derivedthroughtheexpectationmaximization(EM)algorithm,hasbeenwidelyemployedforUWAchannelestimation,itstilldiffersfromtherealposteriorexpectationofchannels.Inthispaper,weproposeanapproachthatcombinesvariationalinference(VI)andMarkovchainMonteCarlo(MCMC)methodstoprovideamoreaccurateposteriorestimation.Specifically,theSBLisfirstre-derivedwithVI,allowingustoreplacetheposteriordistributionofthehiddenvariableswithavariationaldistribution.Then,wedeterminethefullconditionalprobabilitydistributionforeachvariableinthevariationaldistributionandtheniterativelyperformrandomGibbssamplinginMCMCtoconvergetheMarkovchain.TheresultsofsimulationandexperimentindicatethatourestimationmethodachieveslowermeansquareerrorandbiterrorratecomparedtotheclassicSBLapproach.Additionally,itdemonstratesanacceptableconvergencespeed.
